What to wear at the Gym

All members of SCGC are expected to wear the appropriate clothing for gymnastics activities. For the first couple of months shorts and t-shirts (similar to a school PE kit is fine).

Following that we would ask you to purchase a leotard (shorts optional) – for the girls, and leotard and shorts – for the boys.  Please ensure that the girls do not train in the sports tops and shorts only, this is safeguarding for your child and safety for our coaches as fingers are easily broken when supporting if they get caught in tight material.

We do not have a specific training leotard as we want to keep costs as low s possible for you as parents.  There are second hand leotards for sale near the entrance door to the Club and there are numerous websites selling second hand leotards, as well as facebook groups.

Once you are in the competition squads we would ask that you purchase the competition kit which would include a tracksuit, leotard and shorts.  If you ask at the reception area we can add your child onto the list but need to bulk order these, so be aware you may be waiting a few months for delivery (this is because retailers have set a minimum order limit).

If your child’s hair is longer than below their ears, they must fasten it up in a pony tail, pig tails or plats. (this goes for the boys too).  If they have hair longer than mid shoulder length, we strongly suggest that hair is put in 1 or 2 buns dependent on the child’s choice.  This is because long hair whips and can wrap around equipment and coaches extremities easily which can cause serious damage to your child and our coach.
