Sherburn Community Gymnastics Club have something to suit everyone

At SCGC, we offer a wide range of classes which fall under two categories: recreational gymnastics or competitive gymnastics. Although some of the content may be the same, the purpose of your child’s time is very different. Within our recreational classes, the gymnasts are there predominantly for fun, to engage within an activity that has no pressure and to learn a new skill. On the other hand, our competitive gymnasts have their end goal as essentially winning medals at competitions. Yes, thee gymnasts will have fun whilst learning new skills but their competitions and achievement in them is their main driver.

Our recreational gymnastics programme starts right from the teeny tiny tots and progresses right through to our adults. Please see the flow chart below which effectively demonstrates the pathway through recreational gymnastics and the classes that we offer.

Recreational Gymnastics

Our recreational gymnastics programme starts right from the teeny tiny tots and progresses right through to our adults. Please see the flow chart below which effectively demonstrates the pathway through recreational gymnastics and the classes that we offer.

Stay & Play

Suitable for children aged 6 months to starting school. Explore and access all the specialised gymnastics equipment, along with the pre-school soft play, to develop a sense of exploration whilst developing imagination.

Pre-school - Caterpillars

Recommended for 2 year olds, our ‘Caterpillars’ will access the early stages of gymnastics, developing fine and gross motor skills, with the support of their accompanying adult.

Pre-school - Butterflies

Similar to the Caterpillars, it is a fun, exciting environment with lots of different activities. As the children will have developed independence, we feel it is very important to allow the children to give it a go on their own and see how they respond. This session is recommended for children from 3 years old.

Boys Recreational

This class is suited to boys aged 5 and over. (entry to this class is usually through a general gymnastics class) it will develop their strength, discipline and coordination. They will learn the basics of Men's artistic gymnastics using all the equipment that the men's Olympic gymnasts would use.

Level 1 session

Gymnasts will begin to learn the technical vocabulary associated with different shapes and equipment. Developing personal characteristics and skills including listening and following instructions. This session is recommended for children who are 4 years old and have started school.

Level 2 session

The level 2 sessions are suitable for gymnasts that are over 7 years old. This enables gymnasts to really stretch their potential, being able to access more of the equipment, over a longer period of time.

Level 3 session

The level 3 session is 2 hours which means that gymnasts have a prolonged period in the gym to really develop a skill in each piece of equipment before moving on. The level 3 sessions are suitable for gymnasts who have had previous experience within gymnastics and who can demonstrate a specific level of ability.

FreeGym

FreeGym, also known as FreeG or Freestyle, is an upcoming form of gymnastics which is a fusion of parkour, freestyle and free-running in a safe, secure environment. The FreeGym session is appropriate for participants who are over 8 years old.

Adult Gym

As keeping fit and exercise is such an important factor of leading a healthy lifestyle, we found that many adults enquired for a session that catered for their ‘keep fit’ needs but also, something that would tick their childhood, inner gymnast dreams.
